Glendurgan Ferns

I was born in 1950 and grew up in Maldon (where the salt comes from) in beautiful coastal Essex. I inherited my love of the countryside and painting from my father. I have three adult sons and wonderful daughters-in-law.  I moved to Devon in 1989 and live in Churchstow near Kingsbridge with two eccentric cats. Since 1994 I have worked at Harberton Art Workshop in Totnes. I am currently training for lay ministry in the Church of England.

In my early twenties I started to paint in oils but abandoned that medium after a messy incident with one of my sons. I have painted in watercolour ever since.

A few years ago I realised that I was increasingly attracted to painting gardens and thought that if gardens were the thing then I should go for the best, and so started to travel around National Trust properties. I have now painted many in the West Country and a few in East Anglia.

I have exhibited my paintings at various locations in Devon and have twice been accepted for the Singer and Friedlander / Sunday Times exhibition.

I have written a step-by-step guide to painting in watercolour for children. Meet Harry is to be published shortly by CentreHouse Press.
